Happy Valentines Day!

Well I've been busy! Maybe not crafting...but busy none-the-less.
As you will see from MummySews blog, I have been home for the weekend - we packed a million boxes or STUFF and practically emptied the attic. Packing away the craft room was hilarious - it's not nearly half done and we have so many yummy things to play with!
This is, of course, for Mums big move. We just don't know when yet!

We also went to see 'A Night in Vienna' which was an fantastic orchestra who played vienesse waltz's - usually Strauss all night. The composer was great fun and there were dancers and the odd operatic number too! Very cool :) us 3 generations loved it!

Then I trained back to Glasgow and rolled up some truffles. Rum Truffles and chocolate fudge (MummySew has the recipes here). And yes they are Barbie sprinkles.

What the occassion? I'm moving in with a GP family in Newton Stewart for 5 weeks. I'm on placement at their practice which is 2 hours away from Glasgow. They have 4 amazing kids and a huge dog.
Learning curve to say the least - very strange being part of a big family with family meals and outings and evening activities!! Fab house too.

The drive down was through the Galloway Forest Park which was stunning - drove past some really weird things! Blockloch tower for one...which sticks out like a rather impressive 4-storey thumb.

But there were also snow topped mountains and Lochside power plants. Would love to wander a few miles with my camera! Road-side snapping just wasn't good enough. As you can see:

It was so much more beautiful than these 2 crappy pics. You'll have to visit yourself to find out!

The first night I was here I agreed to go along to their running club. 6km run! Wow. 2 days later and I'm still aching. I suppose I better keep exercising though - in Glasgow I do weekly salsa and pole-dancing so I need to keep doing something while I'm away.

I am also loving seeing what the GPs do day-to-day. So much more than you would expect.

Showing off this camera some more...

...but I promise to post something crafty soon! Plus MummySew may be joining the blogging world in the New Year - so excited to have her online!
So we stumbled across teletubby land at Tarn Hows recently...
and knocked a penny into one the many tree collections
I miss Treacle like bonkers...Christmas hols this year will be gladly welcomed, particularly after 5 weeks on placement in ITU!
Bonfire night was a while ago now, but I loved the effects I found with the camera...

I've loved catching up with my girlies too recently.
 Goodnight for now.

Sorry I'm late!

So I'm seriously behind on times by the looks of things! I can't possibly update you on everything since last we spoke...but here's a few highlights. They're much easier to explain now I have my Nikon J1 too!
So I'm still in med school (yawn) - my last placement was in Dumfries for 10 weeks

And my favourite man i still very much around...we've found the most amazing campsite and had 2 trips recently to Grizedale. First with a stay in an insulated pod...

And then the most amazing Yurt as the weather got colder...

We met this guy at the campsite (Prodigy own the other 8!)

And I continued to play around with my fancy new camera... (its all a bit difficult!). On the plus side, my doctors handwriting is improving!

I'm am getting into the christmas spirit so expect some crafty posts soon...!

One World One Heart 2011

Greetings from Scotland! OWOH is in its 5th and final year. I participated last year and my blog roll has been over-flowing ever since!!It's always great to meet new people with new crafts and possibly...steal a few nuggets of inspiration!!
I've already worked my way through most of the blogs on the list (over 700 so far!!) and thought i really should join in properly.
So the aim is to give away a 'door prize' - for any bloggers that stop by and leave a little comment.
A little bit about myself for those who are interested - I am 21 and a 2nd medical student in Glasgow, UK. It's hard - VERY hard!! But all worth it eventually I am sure and it's soo interesting. I have a little 5 week block about osteoporosis going on at the moment and even that's exciting!
In between text books I spend a lot of time with my girlies and in the lake district with my man. We walked around Buttermere last week - it's always so beautiful.

I enjoy felt crafting, stitching, remaking and remodelling, clothes making, curtain making...blah blah blah! Anything to keep my hands busy - crocheting and reading, baking and stitching...!!
And now for my give-aways!
  1. Felt covered drawing pins for brightening your notice board...tiny but fun.
  2. Miniature bottle top pin cushion similar to this one - I will make one similar for you so it may be a different colour or pattern
Good luck - I hope you like my contribution - do feel free to rummage through my blog! All you have to do is comment and leave a way for me to contact you! Remember you must have a blog to participate! I will draw winners using Random.org on Feb 17th...enjoy!!

Note - we have reached the deadline!! Entries are now closed and winners announced in my newest post. Thanks everyone for visiting - i had a great time!

Driftwood Dreams

I have always loved driftwood crafted items - something so raw about them, all those worn down curves on something that's usually so stoic...sew the first attempted item was simple - bookend for MummySew! Tom and I had some trouble thinking of something cool to get mummysew for christmas last year...she had seen these on folksy and wowed at them, sew we thought we would have a go.

We went to the beach somewhat doubting that we'd find any driftwood at all...but look at our spoils! It was pettycur bay we visited, in Fife, and despite it being a scottish November, the sun was shining and with all the rock hopping and digging, we soon warmed up :)
I hosed them down in the shower to get rid of all the sand and crawlies and then leant them up against the radiator to dry...which took weeks. About a week before christmas tom got to work finding dowels. He made two lead dowels for weight which he slotted down into holes he drilled in the base...and then he drilled down the lead dowels to add wooden ones that would hold the upright of the bookends in place.

They have quite a good weight now to keep them upright and rubber feet on their base for grip. Between us we came up with the design, trying to keep them both slightly different - quirky?
p.s. can you tell how behind I am with posting? i'm still catching up with last years chrsitmas presents!

Robin Hoods Bay

I had the most wonderful weekend. I think I've mentioned this three times here already but I DID. look...
We had an eco lodge for the night in Ravenscar just down the coast from Robin Hoods Bay.
Tom organised the most beautiful flowers and chocolates!

We had a log burning stove and 2 floors with a kitchen and the most decadent wallpaper and chandeliers all to ourselves! Gorgeous lodges with the most spectacular views...

We went for a swim at the hotel, wandered down into Robin Hoods Bay and went fossil hunting and found an amenite fossil! And some cheats fossil hunting...which was too pretty and touristy to refuse! Isn't it inspiring??

Oh and we went out for the yummiest dinner at the Wayfarer Bistro also in Robin Hoods Bay which had the most gorgeous abstract artwork. I had lemon sole, and Tom had seabass - it seemed rude not to have fish when they were so famous for it.

We giggled all weekend, had tea and cakes at every tearoom we passed and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Of course going back home to MummySew was lovely too. Amazing home cooking, crafty times and bread making...I didn't want to leave :(
